Rotowire: Channing Frye: (Ankle) Out Until Mid-November, Diogu likely to see more minutes
Update:
Frye will be out 8-10 weeks after undergoing surgery on Monday to remove bone spurs from his left ankle, the Oregonian reports.
Recommendation:
It’s a tough break for Frye, who was looking to solidify his role as backup power forward with the Blazers this season. Frye will miss all of training camp, giving Ike Diogu a chance to grab hold of the reserve power forward role. The good news is that Frye should only miss one or two weeks of the regular season. Deep leagues should still think about grabbing the sweet shooting forward late, but it could take Frye a few weeks after returning to round into game shape.
Diogu will have a shot at earning the job but I think it’s more likely that the Blazers continue to play Travis Outlaw at power forward in some small ball lineups that were very effective last season.
